All the civilizations in history, both ancient and recent, had one thing in common: they told stories. Sometimes, the knowledge we can glean from legends, myths and sagas gives us valuable insights about how a civilization once lived, thought, and believed - insights that would have been otherwise lost.

Beowulf
Beowulf was written in Old English by an Anglo-Saxon scribe around 1000 CE, although the original poem is believed to originate from the 8th to 11th centuries CE, and the story takes place in Scandinavia.
