The Epic of Gilgamesh, written over 4,000 years ago, is often referred to as one of the earliest pieces of writing in human history. It tells the story of the heroic adventures of Gilgamesh, the king of Uruk in Mesopotamia. The epic poem was written in cuneiform, one of the earliest writing systems, on clay tablets.
